Pedestrian, 17, Killed in Tulare DUI Crash Near Blackstone and Martin Luther King
TULARE, CA (March 14, 2022) – A DUI crash killed a teenage pedestrian near Blackstone Street and Martin Luther King Jr Avenue in Tulare.
According to the ABC 30 News and FOX 26 News, the tragic accident took place on Sunday night. Officers reported the collision on March 13 at about 9 p.m.
The incident happened when a 17-year-old Porterville girl and another teen pedestrian were crossing in Tulare. They were walking near the intersection of Blackstone Street and Martin Luther King Jr Avenue.
Drunk Driver Hits Teens
Police said a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck approached and then hit the victims. Both teens sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and rushed them to a hospital, where the 17-year-old died. Medical personnel listed the other girl in critical condition.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time. They soon arrested him for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury.
Officers forced the area of Blackstone and Martin Luther King to shut down for a time following the collision. The fatal Tulare DUI crash is still under investigation.
