TULARE, Calif. (March 18, 2022) — Alondra Gastelum, 18, and her 17-year-old friend, both died in a Tulare pedestrian accident while crossing Blackstone Street and Martin Luther King Junior Avenue.

A driver struck the teenagers Sunday night while crossing the Tulare intersection, according to ABC 7 News.

Alondra Gastelum, 18, died on the night of the accident. Meanwhile, the 17-year-old died a few days later on Wednesday at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

The Tulare Police Department reported that the driver, 83-year-old Manuel Correia, stopped after the deadly crash.

The man cooperated with authorities and the investigation into the fatal Tulare pedestrian accident.

So far, there are no charges pending against the driver. Also, police do not suspect alcohol and or drugs were a factor.

The teenagers had another friend who witnessed the crash and is speaking with investigators. The girl called 911 to report the deadly crash and was traumatized after she witnessed what happened, police said.

Investigators are working on the case and will determine fault for the crash.
