Passenger, 19, Killed in Collision on Highway 108 Monday
Tuolumne County, CA (September 21, 2021) – One person died following a suspected DUI car crash on Highway 108 in Mi-Wuk Village, the Union-Democrat News reported.
Our sources indicated a 17-year-old man from Soulsbyville was behind the wheel of a 2001 Toyota Tacoma heading west on the highway. When the vehicle approached the area near Koinonia Court, the driver allowed the car to veer off the roadway.
Officials said the Toyota hit an embankment, and subsequently overturned. The horrible crash took place Monday around 8:35 p.m.

When rescue teams arrived at the location, they found one person ejected from the vehicle. Authorities believed the 19-year-old passenger was unrestrained, and eventually thrown onto the road. Despite life-saving measures, the passenger succumbed to his injuries and died. The identity of the deceased remained undisclosed pending confirmation and notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, a helicopter airlifted the juvenile driver to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment. Investigators later determined the young driver was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage at the time of the collision.
The California Highway Patrol officers arrested the teenager driver; and booked him into the Motherlode Regional Juvenile Detention Center on DUI charges following his release from the hospital.
