Aubelia Rivera-Zamora Injured in Pedestrian Accident
TURLOCK, Calif. (Oct. 11, 2023) — A Turlock Unified School District bus making a left-hand turn, struck a woman Monday in a crosswalk on North Olive Avenue.
The bus accident occurred at around 11:27 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 9th, according to the Modesto Bee.
Edwin Bettencourt, 62, of Hilmar, was driving the 2005 Thomas school bus carrying about 40 students from Crowell Elementary School. The bus was traveling eastbound on North Avenue and the driver had a green light. He attempted to turn left onto North Olive Avenue. That’s when the bus driver allegedly failed to yield the right-of-way to the woman who was walking within the crosswalk.
Paramedics responded to the T-intersection at North Olive Avenue and North Avenue and located Aubelia Rivera-Zamora, 62, of Salem, Ore., who was conscious and alert.
She was transported by ambulance to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
Investigators are working on the case to determine fault.
