Fatal Bicycle Accident on Silverado Trail in Napa

NAPA COUNTY, Calif. (Oct. 18, 2023) — Two people riding bicycles died Tuesday after they were struck by lumber that fell from a flatbed truck while riding along Silverado Trail in Napa County.

The deadly accident occurred at around 11 a.m. on Oct. 17th, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A man and woman riding bicycles were heading northbound on Silverado Trail and a flatbed truck was traveling in the same direction. Apparently, the load of lumber shifted and fell off the three-axle truck and hit the two bicycle riders.

A man about 50 years old died at the scene and a woman in her 40s traveling with him was transported to Queen of the Valley Medical Center. She later died at the hospital.

The 55-year-old Vallejo man who was driving the truck stopped and cooperated with the investigation.

Police closed down a section of Silverado Trail between Oak Knoll and Yountville Cross to investigate the crash scene.
