 Two Hurt in Bicycle Accident Imperial Beach on Fern Avenue in San Diego Mother, Child Hit by Suspected DUI Driver in Imperial Beach

IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (May 25, 2022) — A mother and child suffered injuries in an Imperial Beach bicycle accident at Fern Avenue and 11th Street in San Diego County.

The suspected DUI collision occurred about 8:12 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24th, according to San Diego News 10.

A 78-year-old man driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was driving on 11th Street prior to the crash. The woman and child riding bicycles were crossing 11th Street at Fern Avenue when the truck hit them.

Paramedics responded and rushed both the mother and her child to a hospital, police said. The mother suffered serious injuries and the child had minor injuries. Both are listed in stable condition.

Driver Arrested DUI Charges

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department was on scene and suspected the motorist was driving under the influence of drugs. The man was booked into the San Diego Central Jail on DUI charges.

Meanwhile, Imperial Beach Traffic deputies and the Sheriff’s STAR Team are heading up the investigation into the Imperial Beach bicycle accident.
