Multi-Vehicle Crash on El Dorado (US-50) Freeway in Folsom
FOLSOM, Calif. (August 18, 2026) — Two people were transported to a hospital Tuesday morning following a crash on westbound U.S. Highway 50 near East Bidwell Street in Folsom, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported on August 18th at approximately 8:27 a.m. on westbound Highway 50 just east of East Bidwell Street. Initial reports indicated that two SUVs were involved, with the vehicles blocking the No. 2 lane.
According to CHP dispatch information, a white Chevrolet SUV was involved in the collision with another vehicle that was not immediately identified. An OnStar notification indicated that occupants of one vehicle may have been elderly and using oxygen.

The situation prompted a significant emergency response. At approximately 8:40 a.m., CHP reported that at least one person was trapped inside a vehicle and requested that medical personnel continue responding.
Fire and emergency crews arrived at the scene, and by approximately 9:24 a.m., dispatch information indicated that two people had been transported to a hospital. The specific hospital and the extent of their injuries were not immediately available.
The CHP classified the crash as involving minor injuries at approximately 8:50 a.m.
The collision caused substantial traffic disruption during the morning commute. At one point, all westbound lanes were blocked, with vehicles being directed to exit at East Bidwell Street. A traffic break was also requested approximately a half-mile east of the crash scene.
By approximately 9:14 a.m., all lanes were reported open, although tow crews remained involved in clearing the damaged vehicles. Two vehicles were reportedly towed from the scene.
CHP later determined that another vehicle observed near the crash was not related to the collision.
The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation. Authorities have not released the identities of those involved or additional information about their conditions.
Drivers traveling westbound Highway 50 through Folsom should remain alert for emergency crews and allow extra time for potential traffic delays.
