Two Injured in Crash on Interstate 40 in San Bernardino County

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (July 20, 2026) — Two people were hospitalized after a crash early Monday morning on westbound Interstate 40 in the Mojave Desert area of San Bernardino County, according to California Highway Patrol radio traffic.

The crash was reported on July 20th at approximately 5:54 a.m. near mile marker 40, just west of the California-Arizona border in the 7100 block of the highway.

CHP logs indicated that a dark grey SUV was overturned and landed on its wheels, with debris and at least one vehicle blocking lanes. A fire crew was requested to respond, and one lane was reported blocked as emergency crews worked at the scene.

At approximately 6:47 a.m., a responding unit reported that two patients were involved. One was described as having minor injuries, while another was suspected of having a possibly delayed abdominal injury. The unit also reported no obvious bleeding or broken bones.

Desert Ambulance was requested and was initially given an estimated 10-minute response time. A medical helicopter was also requested, with the crew expected to arrive later and coordinate with emergency personnel regarding a possible freeway closure.

The California Highway Patrol requested a tow truck for at least one vehicle. Additional details about the circumstances of the crash, the identities of those involved and the extent of the injuries were not immediately available.

The collision remained under investigation.
