Two Killed, 4 Hurt in 8-Vehicle Crash at Victoria Avenue in Oxnard
VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. (Sept. 29, 2026) — A crash last Friday on Victoria Avenue in Oxnard involving seven vehicles resulted in two deaths and five injuries.
The violent collision happened around 3:54 p.m. on Sept. 25th at the Oxnard intersection. Tranquilino Carbrizal Ortiz and Jose Luis Martinez Perez both died in the crash at Victoria and Doris avenues in Ventura County, according to a press release by the Oxnard Police Department.
Traffic Investigators believe that speed and impairment by alcohol and/or drugs were contributing factors to the crash.
UPDATE: David Mora, 29, of Santa Paula, was later charged with two counts of second-degree murder and DUI causing injury.
Four of the eight vehicles had major damage and the drivers of a 1998 Toyota Avalon and a 2005 Honda Civic were trapped inside, police said. Both of those drivers suffered fatal injuries on scene. They were identified only as men, both from Oxnard, aged 31 and 58.
Oxnard Police Traffic Investigators determined David Mora was driving his 2018 GMC Sierra pickup northbound on Victoria Avenue and drove through a red light at Doris Avenue. The driver’s vehicle set off a series of collisions with seven other vehicles, including a Honda Civic, a Toyota Avalon, a Nissan Rogue, a Chevrolet Volt, a 2014 GMC Terrain, a 2010 Ford Fusion, and a 2025 Toyota RAV4.
Emergency crews responded and located those injured. Four others suffered minor to major injuries and were taken to the hospital. One person was seriously injured, two were treated for moderate injuries, and one was treated at the hospital for minor injuries. A fifth person was treated on scene and released.
The cause of the crash will be determined by the Oxnard Police Department.
