Two Killed in Crash at Auberry Road and Old Millerton Road Identified

Yvonne Cheney, 88, and Nellie Moreno, 94, Killed in Fresno County Accident
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (July 24, 2026) — Two elderly women were killed, and six people were injured, on Thursday afternoon in a violent crash involving a teenage driver who allegedly ran a stop sign at Auberry and Old Millerton roads near Millerton Lake in Fresno County.
The two-vehicle collision occurred on July 23, 2026, at approximately 12:45 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol Fresno Communications Center.
CHP dispatchers received multiple reports about the collision involving a Toyota sedan and a Nissan sedan.
Fatal Crash at Auberry Road and Old Millerton Road
Detectives working on the case determined an 18-year-old Clovis woman and three passengers including, Nellie Moreno, 94, of San Joaquin, were traveling eastbound in a Toyota SUV on Old Millerton Road.
Meanwhile, an 88-year-old Prather man and his three passengers including, Yvonne Cheney, 88, of Auberry, were northbound in a Nissan sedan on Auberry Road. The teenager driving the Toyota reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection directly into the path of the oncoming Nissan. The two vehicles collided and went off the roadway and into an embankment.
Sadly, the 88-year-old Auberry woman from the backseat of the Nissan died at the scene of the crash. The Nissan’s driver and two other passengers from that vehicle were taken to Community Regional Medical Center by ground ambulances with moderate to major injuries.
Meanwhile, the Clovis teen driving the Toyota was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries. Her passenger, the 94-year-old San Joaquin woman, was among the injured and was taken to the hospital, where she later died from her injuries. Two others from the Toyota were treated for minor injuries at the scene and released.
