Two Killed, One Injured in Highway 111 Crash in Mecca

Drivers Killed, Passenger Injured in Mecca Car Accident

MECCA, Calif. (May 9, 2025) – Two drivers died and a passenger was badly injured Thursday afternoon following a crash in Mecca on Highway 111.

The two-vehicle crash happened just after 12 p.m. on May 8th on State Route 111, just south of Avenue 68, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP report stated the southbound driver of a blue Honda Civic reportedly merged into the northbound lane to pass a slower-moving vehicle. That’s when the Honda crashed head-on into a driver in a blue Acura TL.

The Acura overturned on a dirt shoulder next to the highway, and the crashed Honda was blocking the roadway.

Emergency responders confirmed the deaths of both drivers at the scene. Meanwhile, a passenger from the Honda was airlifted by helicopter to Desert Regional Medical Center with undisclosed injuries.

Finally, the CHP is heading up an investigation into the crash and they would like witnesses to call Officer Perez at (760) 772-5300.
