Two Killed; SUV Crash Into Metro Bus in Chatsworth
UPDATED: 3 Killed SUV Crashes into MTA Bus at Chatworth Intersection
CHATSWORTH, Calif. (Sept. 15, 2026) — A violent crash involving an SUV and a Metro bus on Nordhoff Street left three people dead and six others were injured Tuesday in Chatsworth.
The crash happened on Sept. 15th shortly after 5 p.m. in the 20900 block of West Nordhoff Street, at De Soto Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The force of the impact ripped open the side of the bus. Several people were injured, and it triggered a major emergency response. Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene as crews worked to assess victims and get them out of the wreckage.
One woman was reportedly trapped inside the Metro Line 166 bus. Firefighters spent time working to extricate her before successfully freeing her and transferring her to an ambulance. Her condition was not immediately known, although responders described her injuries as potentially severe.
Multiple fire engines and ambulances converged on the crash site as emergency crews treated victims and transported injured people to hospitals.
Reports from the scene suggested that two people may have died; later a third was confirmed dead. Los Angeles Fire Department officials had not immediately confirmed the number of fatalities or provided a complete accounting of those injured.
Investigators had not yet determined what caused the SUV to collide with the bus.
The crash remains under investigation, and additional information about the victims, injuries and circumstances surrounding the collision was expected to be released as authorities gathered more information.
