Deadly Wrong-Way Crash on 60 Freeway in Pomona
POMONA, Calif. (March 24, 2025) – Two women were killed and a toddler severely injured in a multi-vehicle crash involving a wrong-way driver Saturday on the Pomona (60) Freeway.
Three others were injured in the deadly collision around 11 p.m. on Saturday, March 24th, west of Reservoir Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported the accident in the westbound lanes of SR-60 involving a driver traveling east in the westbound lanes against traffic.
Rick Rodriguez, 24, of Pomona, was allegedly behind the wheel of the wrong-way 2013 Honda Accord when it crashed head-on into a 2018 Honda Civic occupied by two women and a toddler. Meanwhile, the Pomona man’s Accord spun around and hit a 2019 Toyota Highlander whose driver suffered minor injuries.
The women from the Civic, ages 29 and 39 years old, both suffered major injuries and died at the scene.
Paramedics transported the suspect, the surviving driver, and the one-year-old toddler from the Honda to a hospital, according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department. Two had major injuries and one had minor injuries.
Finally, investigators are working on the case and will determine the cause and liability.
