Two-Vehicle Crash I-5 Freeway and Encinitas Boulevard
Traffic Collision on I-5 North Near Encinitas
Encinitas, CA (April 1, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash happened Tuesday morning on the northbound I-5 freeway near the Encinitas Boulevard exit resulting in at least one injury.
The collision occurred at approximately 9:43 AM on April 1st, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Police responded to the crash involving a black Mazda CX-3 SUV and a red sedan. Both vehicles came to a stop in the center divider. Initial reports indicated that the driver of the Mazda swerved after being cut off by a third vehicle, causing the driver to crash into the red sedan.
CHP units quickly arrived at the scene, where they closed the HOV lane to ensure the safety of responders and clear the debris.
The Federal Protective Service (FPS) also reported that the elderly male driver of the red sedan sustained a back injury and required medical assistance.
The California Highway Patrol has confirmed that no further updates are available on the condition of those involved in the collision, though paramedics from North County Fire Protection District (Norcom FD) were on-site to provide care. The CHP also requested a tow for the involved vehicles.
Investigators are working on the case to determine fault.
