Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 156, US Highway 101 in San Juan Bautista
SAN JUAN BAUTISTA, Calif. (June 4, 2026) — A two-vehicle crash involving a Tesla caused minor injuries and temporarily blocked lanes Thursday morning at the transition from eastbound state Route 156 to southbound U.S. Highway 101 near San Juan Bautista, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision was reported on June 4th around 11:37 a.m. on eastbound SR-156 at the southbound U.S. 101 junction. Initial reports indicated two vehicles were involved, with one vehicle leaving the roadway and ending up in a ditch.
Authorities said both lanes were briefly blocked following the crash, and fluids leaking onto the roadway prompted a response from emergency crews. A reporting party told dispatchers that airbags had deployed and that the driver of one vehicle was conscious and breathing, though it was initially unclear whether anyone was trapped inside.
One of the vehicles involved was described as a blue Tesla that sustained rear-wheel damage and came to rest approximately 10 feet off the roadway. CHP requested a tow truck for the disabled Tesla, while another involved vehicle — described as a gray 2021 SUV — remained driveable.
Fire personnel from Cal Fire were dispatched to the scene and arrived shortly afterward. By about 11:56 a.m., CHP updated the incident from a traffic collision with emergency response to a minor injury crash.
According to dispatch logs, one person was transported to Natividad Medical Center for treatment, while another injured party was taken to an out-of-county hospital, though authorities did not immediately identify which facility.
Tow services from Hollister and the South Santa Clara County area responded to assist with vehicle recovery.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
