2-Vehicle Crash on Orange (57) Freeway at I-5 Freeway
ORANGE, Calif. (Sept. 8, 2022) — An Orange (57) Freeway crash involving two vehicles Thursday morning caused major traffic delays, just north of the Interstate (5) Freeway.
Two vehicles collided about 8 a.m. in the southbound HOV lane of State Route 57, according to a California Highway Patrol dispatch report.
The CHP report stated the driver of a silver Toyota RAV 4 SUV allegedly crossed over into the HOV flyover in front of a driver in a Mercedes GLE 350. The Mercedes crashed into the back of the Toyota, causing major damage to both vehicles.
A witness told 911 operators that the driver in the SUV was allegedly “looking at their phone and texting prior to the traffic collision,” the report said.
One person suffered a laceration to their head and possibly other injuries. Paramedics responded and transported the injured to a hospital for further treatment.
Meanwhile, tow trucks came to remove both of the damaged vehicles from the HOV and No. 1 lanes of the freeway.
Investigators will determine fault for the crash.
