Tyler Fhurong, 21, and Darren Chaytor, 31, Identified as 2 Men Killed in Crash
ELK GROVE, California (July 26, 2017) – Two people died early Wednesday morning after a delivery truck crashed into the back of a big rig on the northbound Interstate 5 Freeway, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The victims who died in the delivery truck were later identified as the passenger, Tyler Fhurong, 21, of Gilroy, and driver, Darren Chaytor, 31, of Hollister.
The crash took place about 5:23 a.m. this morning just north of Laguna Boulevard. The pickup truck was demolished beyond recognition after it crashed into the Hyundai semi-tractor-trailer truck.
The Sacramento Fire Department responded to the scene and a SigAlert was issued due to the Nos. 1 and 2 lanes being blocked. Later the two lanes reopened and a hard closure was in place for the No. 3 lane.
Fatality Reported on I-5 Freeway
There is an investigation into what led to this collision and why the driver was heading the wrong way on the freeway. Often when a driver is traveling in the wrong direction, it turns out they have been drinking or under the influence of drugs. There may have also been a medical condition or another cause.
