Tyler Nielson, 17, and Justin Gardner, 16, Victims of Fatal Crash
LOCATION: Merced County near Los Banos
DATE OF INCIDENT: Sunday, March 25th
March 26, 2018- According to the Los Banos News, a horrific tragic crash caused by a drunk driver left two young teens dead and a third teen badly injured Sunday on the Interstate 5 freeway.
At roughly 11:50 a.m., California Highway Patrol officials were notified of a malicious head-on collision between a 2015 Honda and a Nissan north of Highway 165.
According to police, the driver of the Honda ID’d as Sabrina Distura, 21, of San Jose, had been traveling northbound on I-5 before veering across the double yellow and center divider directly into the path of the Nissan.
Dawson Fay Badly Injured
Inside the Nissan was Tyler Nielson, 17, Justin Gardner, 16, and Dawson Fay, 16, all from Nevada City.
The collision tragically left the driver Tyler Nielson with fatal injuries as he was pronounced at the scene.
Justin Gardner sustained grave injuries and was flown to Doctor Hospital located in Modesto. Gardner suffered major head trauma and tragically died of his injuries.
The third passenger, Dawson Fay survived the crash but not unscathed. Fay had a head injury and a broken hip. He was taken to Memorial North Hospital.
Sabrina Distura Arrested for DUI
According to the Fresno Bee, Sabrina Distura was determined to have been under the influence at the time of the crash. She was first taken to Los Banos Memorial Hospital and will eventually be taken to jail upon her release.
