Motorist Faces Murder Charges for Suspected DUI Crash
ORANGE, Calif. (June 30, 2022) – Tyler Pitchford, 31, of Orange, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with murder for the death of a Newport Beach man in a crash last month at Tustin Street and Taft Avenue in Orange.
The deadly crash happened about 10:29 p.m. on May 20th at the Orange intersection, according to the Daily Pilot. Tyler Pitchford was driving a Kia Soul north on Tustin Street when he allegedly drove through a red light, the Orange Police Department said in a news release. He reportedly struck a Porsche driven by Shane Lowe, 59, of Newport Beach, who died at the scene.
Meanwhile, paramedics transported Pitchford to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Authorities arrested Pitchford following his release from the hospital. Police say he was impaired on narcotics after it was confirmed with a blood sample that was positive for several narcotics, including Fentanyl, police said. Additionally, Pitchford had two prior convictions for impaired driving, police said.
The Orange crash remains under investigation and witnesses may call the police at 714-744-7444.
