Tyson Young, 41, ID’d as Suspect in Mendocino County DUI Crash on Highway 101
MENDOCINO COUNTY, CA (August 14, 2022) – Authorities detained Tyson Young after a DUI crash on Highway 101 in Mendocino County.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 41-year-old Fortunata man was under the influence when the collision occurred on Friday.
The incident began when Tyson Young was driving a gold Toyota Tundra south on Highway 101 in Mendocino County. At the same time, a maroon Kia Sedona was going north.
CHP said he then crossed over the double yellow lines into the northbound lane directly into the path of the other car. In the process, he struck the Kia head-on.
The two vehicles crashed just south of Dora Creek and north of Leggett. The Times Standard and KYMKEMP wrote that the wreck took place on August 12 at about 7:11 p.m.
Woman, Teen Injured in Wreck
A 15-year-old girl riding the Sedona sustained major injuries as a result of the accident. Another passenger, a 41-year-old Arcata resident Rebekah Kencke, survived with moderate injuries.
Paramedics rushed the woman to the Jerold Phelps Community Hospital and the teen to the UC Davis Medical Center for treatment.
The driver of the Kia, 44-year-old Joe Kencke, and a 17-year-old girl traveling with them ended up unharmed. Meanwhile, Tyson Young obtained major injuries following the crash.
Medical personnel took him to the Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital. CHP soon placed Tyson Young under arrest for felony DUI causing injury.
Officers officers forced the northbound lanes of Highway 101 to shut down for a time after the wreck. The DUI crash is still under investigation.
