1 Killed in Union City Crash on Southbound Interstate 880 Near Whipple
UNION CITY, CA (November 28, 2021) – A car crash killed at least one person and injured several others on the Interstate 880 in Union City.
According to The Mercury News and SF Gate, the tragic accident took place early Sunday. Officers reported the wreck at about 2:53 a.m.
The California Highway Patrol said at least four vehicles collided for an unknown reason in Union City. They crashed on the southbound Interstate Highway 880, just north of the Whipple Road interchange.
Several Injured in Wreck
A CHP dispatch described the cars as a black Tesla, a white sedan and a silver Toyota RAV4. Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene near Hayward.
Medical personnel confirmed that one individual died as a result of the accident. Multiple people ended up hurt due to the impact of the collision.
The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, CHP forced all southbound lanes of Interstate 880 to shut down near Whipple following the wreck.
The cause of the fatal Union City crash is still under investigation.
