MTS Bus Hits Pedestrian at Intersection
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Jan. 17, 2025) — A young man was struck by an MTS bus and seriously injured in a University City pedestrian accident at Palmilla Drive and Arriba Street.
The 22-year-old man was hospitalized after the 7:08 p.m. crash on Wednesday, Jan. 15th, according to a report by MSN.
The driver of the Metropolitan Transit System bus made a left-hand turn on Arriba Street at a green light and hit the pedestrian who was walking south in a marked crosswalk. It appears that the bus driver failed to yield the right of way to the pedestrian.
The 51-year-old bus driver stopped and someone called 911 for help. Paramedics responded and transported the injured man to a hospital where he was treated for several injuries including an orbital fracture, a spinal fracture, and a lung contusion, the report said.
The San Diego Police Department, which is heading up the investigation, does not suspect alcohol was a factor.
Witnesses are asked to call (858) 495-7800 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
