1 Killed, 1 Injured in University Heights MTS Bus Crash on Texas Street
SAN DIEGO, CA (May 20, 2021) – A MTS bus crash killed one person and injured another on Texas Street in University Heights.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune and NBC San Diego, the tragic accident occurred on Thursday evening. Officers reported the wreck at about 6:20 p.m.
The incident happened when a Metropolitan Transit System bus was going south on Texas Street between Monroe and Madison avenues. At the same time, a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling north.
Bus and Car Collide Head-On
For an unknown reason, the car veered into the southbound lanes. Police said the Chevrolet then slammed head-on into the MTS bus in University Heights.
A passenger on the MTS bus, a 59-year-old woman, sustained head contusion as a result of the crash. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and took her to a hospital for treatment.
Medical personnel also rushed the 60-year-old man driving the Malibu to a hospital, where he died. The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, officials forced the roadway to shut down for a time following the wreck. The cause of the fatal University Heights crash is still under investigation.
