Driver, 25, Arrested on DUI, Manslaughter Charges for Vernalis Crash
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, Calif. (Oct. 18, 2022) — Uvaldo Carrera-Moreno, 48, of Santa Ana, died in a Vernalis crash on the Interstate 5 Freeway Sunday night near the Westley Rest Area.
Additionally, police arrested the driver, Meliton Carrera, 25, on DUI and felony vehicular manslaughter charges, according to the Modesto Bee.
A second passenger in the vehicle, Francisco Trujillo, 34, of Concord, suffered minor injuries, the newspaper said.
Also, the rollover collision occurred about 10 p.m. on Oct. 16th in San Joaquin County, according to the Fox 26 News and the CHP Modesto station.
Furthermore, police officers responded and located the overturned vehicle in the northbound lanes near the Westley Rest Area.
Investigators learned that the vehicle was traveling at about 75 mph on the I-5, just south of Khalsa Road. For unknown reasons, the vehicle served to the left and went off the freeway into a dirt median where it overturned. Uvaldo Carrera-Moreno was seated in the back right side of the car and ws not wearing a seatbelt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Finally, investigators continue to work on the case.
