Valinda Fatal Hit-and-run Motorcycle Crash Temple Avenue, Ruthcrest Avenue
Deadly Hit-and-Run Collision on Temple Avenue in Valinda
VALINDA, Calif. (Feb. 17, 2025) – A 25-year-old La Puente man died in a hit-and-run motorcycle accident Saturday night on Temple Avenue in Valinda.
Police are searching for the suspect driving a silver Kia Soul in connection with the crash around 8:30 p.m. on February 15, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash between the suspect’s Kia and a young man riding a black 2016 Yamaha R6 motorcycle collided in the westbound lanes of Temple Avenue.
It happened when the Kia made a lane change into the path of the motorcycle rider moving from the No. 1 to the No. 2 lane, just east of Ruthcrest Avenue, the report said. The rider lost control and crashed into a wood telephone pole on the right shoulder. Unfortunately, the La Puente man died at the scene of the crash and has not been identified.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Kia Soul fled the scene without stopping to help the victim.
“Motorcyclists are especially vulnerable to collisions with other motorists,” said Attorney James Johnson, adding that it’s become common for drivers not to signal before changing lanes.
Indeed, California had 634 motorcycle fatalities in 2022, up from 565 fatal motorcycle collisions the year before and these deadly crashes make up 13 percent of all motor vehicle fatalities in the state.
It’s a staggering statistic given that registered motorcycles make up just 3 percent of all vehicles registered in California, Johnson said.
As for the crash in Valinda, the California Highway Patrol Baldwin Park Office is heading up the investigation. Witnesses should call California Highway Patrol Officer L. Martinez at 626-517-8500
