Suspect Allegedly Falls Asleep While Driving
VALLE VISTA, California (May 10, 2016) – A 53-year-old man was killed after being struck by a wrong-way driver near Mountain and Cedar avenues, just east of the Ramona Expressway, according to an article by Press Enterprise.
The accident happened on May 10 at around 6:14 a.m.
As per the article, 23-year-old Jacob Furrow, of Hemet, was headed east on Mountain Avenue in a black 2000 Saturn SL when he suddenly fell asleep while driving.
Furrow suddenly drifted and into the westbound traffic and collided head-on with a 53-year-old man driving in a white 2013 Volkswagen Beetle.
The impact caused the Volkswagen to overturn ejecting the 53-year-old man through the sunroof, as mentioned in the article.
Rescuers transported the victim to a nearby hospital but he later succumbed to severe trauma.
The name of the fatal victim has not been made public as the next of kin has not yet been notified.
Furrow and his two other passengers suffered minor injuries.
It remains unclear whether or not Furrow will face charges.
