The crash took place in the northbound lanes of the freeway about 2:30 a.m. near Victory Boulevard. Police say one vehicle crashed and three people got out of the vehicle, but the driver was struck by an oncoming car and thrown onto the southbound side of the freeway. The driver’s two passengers were struck by debris and suffered major injuries.
Paramedics responded and transported all three people to a hospital and one of the other drivers involved was evaluated for injuries at the scene.
The northbound and southbound lanes of the freeway was closed down for several hours for cleanup and an investigation into what caused the initial crash. All lanes were eventually reopened by 6:35 a.m. this morning. The crash remains under investigation by police to determine liability.
