Van Nuys Man Killed in Pedestrian Hit-and-run Crash at Oxnard and Cantaloupe
VAN NUYS, Calif. (July 10, 2020) — A Van Nuys man in his 70s was struck and killed Wednesday night in a hit-and-run crash at Oxnard Street and Cantaloupe Avenue in Van Nuys.
The fatal crash was reported at 8:55 p.m. on July 8th, according to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.
Police say the victim was crossing Oxnard Street when an eastbound gray Saturn sedan struck him and fled the scene.
The victim suffered major injuries and died on scene despite efforts by the Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics. Meanwhile, the vehicle left behind a sideview mirror and other evidence at the scene. Police are now searching for the suspect whose vehicle is likely to have extensive damage to its front end.
The Los Angeles City Council offers a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund. There is a reward of up to $50,000 available to community members who provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
