Motorcycle Rider Injured in Crash on I-405 Freeway in Van Nuys Area
VAN NUYS, Calif. (Sept. 20, 2021) — A Van Nuys motorcycle head-on crash involving a wrong-way SUV happened on the Interstate 405 Freeway, just south of Sherman Way.
The motorcyclist collided with a vehicle in the HOV lane in the southbound lanes of the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol. Police say a black SUV allegedly crossed the double yellow lanes and crashed into the motorcycle. The rider was thrown over the center divider and landed in northbound traffic lanes face down. The motorcycle remained on the southbound side of the freeway, just north of Victory.
The collision happened about 7:35 a.m. on Sept. 20th, the CHP said. Los Angles police and fire departments sent personnel to help the injured rider.
Police issued a SigAlert for roughly 30 minutes due to the blocked HOV lane.
Investigators seek to determine what led up to the collision.
