8 Injured in Vandenberg Space Force Base Crash on Highway 1 at Santa Lucia Canyon
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, CA (September 16, 2022) – A crash injured several people on Highway 1 near Vandenberg Space Force Base.
According to the KSBY News and Noozhawk, the accident took place on Friday morning. Officers reported the wreck at about 9:30 a.m. near Lompoc.
The incident happened when a silver van was stopped eastbound on Santa Lucia Canyon Road at Highway 1 near Vandenberg Space Force Base.
At the same time, another vehicle was traveling south on the highway. For an unknown reason, the van pulled out in front of the other car.
3 Children Victims in Wreck
The California Highway Patrol said in the process, the southbound driver struck the left side of the van. Three children, including an infant, riding the van sustained major injuries as a result of the collision.
One of them ended up thrown from the vehicle upon impact. Four adults obtained moderate injuries and a fifth person survived the incident with minor injuries.
A helicopter flew the ejected juvenile to the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Ground ambulances rushed the other children to the Lompoc Medical Center and Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria.
Paramedics transported the other five patients to hospitals for treatment. The names of the wounded parties and their condition at this time were not released.
Officers forced multiple lanes of Highway 1 to shut down at Santa Lucia Canyon following the wreck. The cause of the Vandenberg Space Force Base crash is still under investigation.
