Man, 64, Killed in Crash at Van Nuys Intersection
VAN NUYS, Calif. (Aug. 7, 2023) – Vatkes Nalbandian, 64, died in a fatal crash with a wrong-way driver at Victory Boulevard and Columbus Avenue in Van Nuys.
The traffic accident occurred at around 10:55 p.m. on Sunday, August 6th, according to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Operations Center.
The two-vehicle collision occurred after a driver traveling in the wrong direction collided with the victim’s vehicle.
Fatal Crash Victory Boulevard in Van Nuys
Authorities reported the wrong-way driver was a 24-year-old man who was traveling eastbound on Victory Boulevard.
The vehicle crossed over into westbound traffic lanes and hit a vehicle driven by Vatkes Nalbandian. The older man suffered major injuries and died at the scene.
Also, the alleged wrong-way driver and his female passenger were transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries including a broken leg the woman suffered, according to KTLA News.
The suspect presumed to be the wrong-way driver was arrested for an alleged DUI.
The case remains under investigation.
