1 Killed, 4 Injured in Crash on Pacific Coast Highway Near Deer Creek Road
VENTURA COUNTY, CA (September 11, 2021) – A crash killed one person and seriously injured several others on Pacific Coast Highway near Deer Creek Road.
According to The Ventura County Star and KVTA News, the tragic accident took place on Saturday afternoon. Officers reported the collision shortly before 1 p.m., south of Mugu Rock.
The incident began when a 2001 Jeep Wrangler was going south on Pacific Coast Highway, north of Deer Creek Road. At the same time, a 2017 Honda HRV was traveling north.
For an unknown reason, the Jeep made an unsafe turning movement and crossed the double yellow line. The California Highway Patrol said the Wrangler then slammed head-on into the Honda.
2 Cars Collide Head-On
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced the 62-year-old Los Angeles woman driving the Honda dead at the scene.
Her passengers, a 90-year-old Santa Monica woman and a 65-year-old Los Angeles woman, sustained major injuries as a result of the wreck. Air ambulances took them to hospitals for treatment.
The driver of the Jeep, a 39-year-old Oxnard man, suffered moderate injuries. Another occupant of the Wrangler, a 34-year-old Oxnard man, survived with major injuries.
Both patients also ended up hospitalized for further aid. The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, the cause of the fatal collision is still under investigation. CHP forced Pacific Coast Highway to shut down in both directions near Deer Creek for more than four hours following the crash.
