1 Killed, 2 Injured in Ventura Car Crash on Southbound Highway 101
VENTURA, CA (June 20, 2021) – A DUI crash killed one person and injured two others on Highway 101 in Ventura.
According to The Ventura County Star and KVTA News, the tragic accident occurred on Sunday morning. Officers reported the wreck at around 4:20 a.m.
The incident began when a Nissan Sentra was going south on Highway 101, just south of Victoria Avenue, in Ventura. The car then spun out of control and went off the right side of the freeway.
The California Highway Patrol said the Nissan plunged about 40 to 50 feet down an embankment. The vehicle rolled over multiple times, ejecting a female passenger in the process.
DUI Factor in Collision Near Victoria Avenue
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. A second female occupant sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel rushed her to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment. They also took the driver of the Sentra, a man in his early 20s, with non-life-threatening injuries.
The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, CHP believed that the motorist was under the influence when he crashed the car.
Officers shut down the middle and right lanes of Highway 101 and the on-ramp from northbound Victoria to the southbound 101 following the wreck.
Authorities soon arrested the man on suspicion of a felony DUI offense. The fatal Ventura crash is still under investigation.
