2 Killed, 3 Injured in Vernalis Crash Near Highway 132 and Kasson Road
VERNALIS, CA (September 7, 2020) – A traffic collision near Highway 132 and Kasson Road killed two people and injured several others on Monday afternoon.
According to The Modesto Bee and Central Valley TV, officers received a call about the accident on Labor Day shortly after 4 p.m. between River Road and McCracken Road.
The incident began when a green Honda Civic was going east on Highway 132 near Kasson Road. At the same time, a white Ford Econoline van was headed west.
In an attempt to pass traffic, the Honda swerved sharply to the right. It traveled back into the eastbound lane and continued onto the right shoulder.
The California Highway Patrol said the Civic then spun out of control and crossed over all lanes into the path of the Ford. The van ultimately collided with the passenger side of the Honda.
Highway 132 Car Crash Near River Road on Labor Day
CHP found the van down an embankment on the north side of the highway. The Civic sustained major damage to its right side upon impact.
Fire department officials along with the paramedics responded to the scene and confirmed that the driver and the front-seat passenger of the Honda died as a result of the crash.
Firefighters also rescued two children trapped in the back seat of the Honda. Medical personnel rushed the juveniles and the operator of the Ford to the hospital with apparent significant injuries.
The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, officers forced Highway 132 to shut down following the wreck.
The cause of the tragic incident remains under investigation.
