Veronica Hurtado, 23, Seriously Injured in Merced County Crash on Highway 33
MERCED COUNTY, CA (November 29, 2021) – A mail truck crash seriously injured Veronica Hurtado on Highway 33 near Santa Nella in Merced County.
The California Highway identified the 23-year-old Modesto woman as the victim of the wreck which took place on Sunday.
The incident began when Veronica Hurtado was driving a Grumman U.S. Postal Service mail truck north on Highway 33 in Merced County. At the same time, a GMC was going south.
The driver of the GMC, 36-year-old Narbeh Nathan, slowed to make a left turn onto eastbound Husman Road. In the process, he failed to yield the right of way to the mail truck.
Car and Mail Truck Collide
The San Francisco resident turned left in front of the postal worker and the two collided. CHP said the mail truck then went airborne and came to a rest on its right side.
Veronica Hurtado sustained major injuries as a result of the Highway 33 crash. Paramedics arrived and soon took her to the Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment.
A passenger in the GMC survived with moderate injuries and ended up hospitalized. Narbeh Nathan suffered minor injuries in the collision.
The Merced Sun Star wrote that the accident occurred on November 28 at about 1:50 p.m. Meanwhile, CHP forced a stretch of State Route 33 to shut down for more than an hour following the wreck.
The cause of the Merced County crash is still under investigation.
