Victor Lopez Jr., 44, Killed in Bakersfield Hit-and-Run on Highway 184
BAKERSFIELD, CA (December 20, 2021) – Victor Lopez Jr. was killed after a hit-and-run crash on Highway 184 near Farmers Lane in Bakersfield.
The coroner’s office identified the 44-year-old Bakersfield man as the victim of the fatal collision which took place on Saturday.
The incident happened when Victor Lopez Jr. was walking north on Highway 184, known as Weedpatch Highway, in Bakersfield. At the same time, a vehicle was going north.
Driver Hits Pedestrian, Flees Scene
For an unknown reason, the driver struck him near Farmers Lane. The California Highway Patrol said the accident occurred on December 18 at around 6:05 p.m. near Lamont.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and then found the pedestrian down on the ground. Victor Lopez Jr. ended up suffering from serious injuries as a result of the crash.
Medical personnel soon pronounced him dead at the scene. The Bakersfield Now and 23 ABC News wrote that the motorist did not stop to render aid to the man and fled the area.
Officers believed that alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident. The cause of the Bakersfield hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
