VICTORVILLE, California (October 9, 2014) – A 53-year-old Apple Valley man was killed Wednesday night when another driver made a left-hand turn in front of his motorcycle and the two vehicles collided at the intersection of D Street and Tenth Street, according to a press release by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner.
The collision between the two drivers was reported about 7:44 p.m. on October 8, 2014. The motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on D Street when the driver of a pickup truck heading westbound on D Street approached the intersection and began to make a left-hand turn onto southbound Tenth Street. The motorcyclist and his passenger hit the side of the pickup truck and were ejected.
Paramedics responded to the crash to assist the injured people. The motorcyclist was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital where he died. His passenger was also transported to a hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the pickup truck, identified as Roderick Gonzales, 66, of Adelanto, was not injured.
Police closed down D Street to traffic in both directions through 1:15 a.m.
“My condolences go out to the family of this man as they cope with his sudden loss,” said Attorney James Johnson. “It appears this motorcyclist may have had the right-of-way, but police will evaluate the facts and issue a report with their findings assigning liability.”
