Highway 18 (El Evad0 Road) Fatal Pedestrian Accident
VICTORVILLE, California (August 9, 2017) — A pedestrian was struck and killed early Wednesday morning in a collision at El Evado Road (Highway 18) and Palmdale Road, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner.
The fatal crash took place about 2:14 a.m. between a white Toyota Sequoia and the unidentified person. Police say the SUV was heading south on El Evado when the vehicle struck the person who was crossing El Evado from west to east. The pedestrian was reportedly not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash.
The Victorville Police Department and firefighters responded to help the victim, but they died at the scene.
There were no other injuries reported.
A full investigation is underway by the police department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT). The intersection was closed down for roughly six hours and opened about 8 a.m. this morning.
Witnesses are asked to contact Deputy Jeffrey Dean at the Victorville Police Station (760) 241-2911.
Liability for Car Accidents
The facts in this particular case state that a pedestrian was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk and was struck by a large SUV. There are four marked crosswalks at this intersection and it appears to have good lighting. There are businesses such as a McDonald’s restaurant nearby that may have video surveillance that could help clarify what exactly happened. It’s also possible there were witnesses at this busy intersection. Police will consider all evidence as they attempt to determine fault.
