VICTORVILLE, California (April 8, 2014) – A motorcyclist was arrested on DUI charges early Friday morning following a fatal crash with a second motorcycle rider on Jasmine Street just west of Hesperia Road, according to a press release by the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department.
About 2:07 a.m. on Friday, April 4, Shaun Young of Fort Irwin was riding his motorcycle eastbound on Jasmine Street when he was struck from behind by Richard Maldonado of Victorville. The impact threw both riders off their motorcycles and into the roadway.
Young was transported by ambulance to Desert Valley Hospital and then Loma Linda University Medical Center, but he died the following day about 7:51 a.m. on Saturday, April 5. Maldonado suffered multiple injuries and was taken to Desert Valley Hospital. While he was being treated, police learned he was intoxicated and it was determined that he was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the fatal crash.
Police arrested Maldonado and the accident is under investigation by the Victorville Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT). Witnesses or anyone with information about this accident are asked to contact Deputy Stone at 760-241-2911.
