CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif. (June 29, 2023) — Vira Zheltonozhko, 82, of Citrus Heights, died in a pedestrian accident Tuesday at Antelope Road at Auburn Boulevard in Citrus Heights.

The deadly collision occurred around 8:20 p.m. on June 27th in Sacramento County, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff Coroner.

A driver in a white sedan reportedly struck the pedestrian on a sidewalk as well as several utility poles and a traffic light due to unknown circumstances, according to the Sacramento Bee. It happened near Rusch Community Park.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded and located the Vira Zheltonozhko on the sidewalk, but attempts to save her life failed and she died at the scene. There were no other injuries from the collision and the driver stopped.

The Citrus Heights Police Department requested a road closure for the eastbound lanes of Antelope Road, between Auburn Boulevard and Laupe Lane.

Investigators are working on the case to determine if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, police said. Also, it’s unknown if speed was a factor in the collision at this time, but the case remains under investigation.

The police department said eastbound lanes of Antelope Road are closed west of Auburn Boulevard and east of Laupe Lane. Those roads are expected to stay closed for several hours.
