Man, 46, Hit and Killed by Several Cars on Highway 198
VISALIA (October 31, 2017) – A pedestrian was killed after being struck by multiple vehicles on Highway 198 Friday evening, according to the Fresno Bee.
Investigators revealed the victim ran into traffic for unknown reasons in the westbound lanes of the highway.
Shortly after stepping into the road, the pedestrian was hit by a Jeep. The impact overthrown the victim, who then landed in the slow lane of the westbound Highway 198.
The man was ultimately struck by two other cars–a Ford truck, and a 2003 Toyota.
The fourth vehicle that hit the victim reportedly continued driving following the crash.
As per the article, the pedestrian was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim was only identified as a 46-year-old man.
Meanwhile, officials mentioned that even though the impact of the last vehicle is not believed to have contributed to the death of the man, a search is still underway for the driver.
We offer our warmest of thoughts, our prayers, and condolences to the family members of the deceased as they search for peace and comfort.
Wrongful Death Lawyer
Based on this news report, it remained unclear if the involved motorists will be held liable for hitting the male pedestrian. California has several right of way laws that apply to the pedestrians. These laws include the obligation of the drivers to yield the right of way to pedestrians crossing in a marked crosswalk, or unmarked crosswalks at intersections, to not overtake and pass a stopped vehicle that let pedestrians cross at a marked or unmarked crosswalk, and to exercise due care and lessen the speed of their cars while approaching a pedestrian within any marked or unmarked crosswalk.
