W. Wayne Chandler, 76, Critically Injured in Yreka Pedestrian Crash on Main Street
YREKA, CA (July 21, 2021) – A pedestrian crash critically injured W. Wayne Chandler near Main Street and Raymond Street in Yreka.
Family members identified the 76-year-old Yreka man as the victim of the collision which took place last week on Friday morning.
The incident happened when W. Wayne Chandler was walking across South Main Street near the intersection of Raymond Street in Yreka.
Victim Hit by Car in Crosswalk
Yreka police said for an unknown reason, a car struck the pedestrian in the crosswalk. The Siskiyou Daily News wrote that the accident occurred on July 16 at about 8:30 a.m.
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene and found him lying on the road near the Nature’s Kitchen. Wayne Chandler sustained major injuries as a result of the Yreka crash.
Medical personnel rushed him to the UC Davis Medical Center where they placed him in a medically induced coma.
Meanwhile, Yreka police affirmed that the female driver stopped after hitting the pedestrian. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
