Pedestrian Killed, Another Injured in Walnut Creek Crash Near Main and Pine
WALNUT CREEK, CA (July 30, 2022) – A DUI crash near Main Street and Pine Street killed a pedestrian and seriously injured another in Walnut Creek.
According to The Mercury News and NBC Bay Area, the tragic accident took place early Saturday. Officers reported the collision at about 1:50 a.m.
The incident happened when two pedestrians were walking on the east sidewalk of North Main Street near Pine Street.
A pickup truck struck the victims and then slammed into a cement pillar in the area. Walnut police said one pedestrian died at the scene of the accident.
DUI Driver Hits Victims
The other person ended up suffering from major injuries as a result of the collision. Paramedics rushed the patient to a hospital for treatment.
The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, police determined that the woman driving the car was under the influence when she hit the victims.
They soon arrested her on suspicion of DUI causing injury, and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. The fatal Walnut Creek pedestrian crash is still under investigation.
Officers forced the corner of Main and Pine streets to shut down for a time following the incident. Anyone with information can call the police at 925-935-6400.
