WALNUT CREEK: Motorcyclist Killed in Crash on 680 Freeway at Main Street

Car CrashWALNUT CREEK, California (April 5, 2016) — A 70-year-old motorcycle rider was killed and others injured Tuesday afternoon when a northbound vehicle suddenly turned into the path of the man within the northbound lanes of the Interstate 680 Freeway.

The rider was ejected and thrown over the center divider into the path of two southbound motorists, per the East Bay Times.

The rider identified as Richard Petrillo, 70, of Martinez, was badly injured and rushed to a medical center, where he did not survive.

At this time, police officials are investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.

Following the collision, police issued a SigAlert for the crash due to the Nos. 1 to 6 lanes being blocked on the southbound and the Nos. 1 to 4 lanes blocked on the northbound sides of the freeway.
