Walter Vayson, Jr. Fatal Crash Avenue 12, Road 36 1/2 Madera County1 Dead; 4 Injured in Head-on Crash on Avenue 12

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (Nov. 15, 2021) — Walter Cleven Vayson, Jr., 50, of Oakland, died Sunday in a head-on crash on Avenue 12 in the Madera Ranchos area.

The Oakland man was driving a gray Toyota RAV4 on Avenue 12 towards Road 36 1/2 amid dense fog in the area, according to the California Highway Patrol and ABC 30 News.

Just after midnight the Toyota veered into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into a white BMW occupied by a woman and three juvenile passengers.

Walter Vayson was not wearing a seatbelt. Additionally, authorities believe he may have been driving under the influence at the time of the collision, but that has not been confirmed at this time.

Police believe that heavy fog with visibility between 100 and 500 feet may have been a contributing factor.

The woman and three underage passengers from the BMW suffered injuries in the collision. Paramedics transported them by ambulances to local hospitals, but they are all expected to survive. The report did not mention their identities or extent of their injuries.

The case remains under investigation.
