Bicyclist, 24, Killed in Watsonville Hit-and-Run at Green Valley and Littleway
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA (November 29, 2021) – A hit-and-run crash killed a bicyclist at Green Valley Road and Littleway Lane north of Watsonville.
According to the Santa Cruz Sentinel and CBS San Francisco, the tragic accident took place early Saturday. Officers reported the wreck at around 1:55 a.m.
The incident happened on November 27 when a 25-year-old Watsonville man was riding a bicycle north on Green Valley Road near Watsonville.
For an unknown reason, a 2005 Toyota Matrix struck him from behind. The California Highway Patrol said the two collided at the intersection with Littleway Lane.
Driver Hits Victim, Flees Scene
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and found the cyclist left lying on the ground. He sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel pronounced the victim dead at the scene. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the driver of the Toyota did not stop to render aid to the rider and fled the area. They soon located the motorist on suspicion of felony hit and run and vehicular manslaughter.
Officers forced the intersection of Green Valley and Littleway to shut down following the collision. The cause of the fatal Watsonville hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
