Man, 24, Killed in Watsonville Hit-and-Run Crash on Main Street
WATSONVILLE, CA (May 8, 2022) – A hit-and-run crash killed a pedestrian on Main Street in Watsonville.
According to The Santa Cruz Sentinel and KSBW News, the tragic accident took place late Thursday night. Officers reported the collision at around 10:30 p.m.
The incident happened on May 5 when a vehicle struck a male pedestrian for an unknown reason in Watsonville. The driver hit him in the 1900 block of Main Street near the Watsonville Square.
Driver Hits Pedestrian, Flees Scene
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and then found the 24-year-old Watsonville man left lying on the ground. He sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.
An air ambulance soon took the victim to an out-of-county trauma center, where he died. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the motorist did not stop to render aid to the man and fled toward Highway 1. They described the car as a white 4-door sedan.
Officers forced a stretch of Main Street to shut down for a time following the incident. The cause of the fatal Watsonville hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
