CHP first logged the incident when a bicyclist only being identified as Scott Brunton, 34, of Scotts Valley, was struck by a vehicle at about 8:40 p.m.
Per the report, the driver identified as Violeta Cervantes, 29, attempted to leave the scene after hitting Brunton but was located a short while later.
Brunton who was thrown by his bike and sadly was declared deceased at the scene.
Police officials believe that Cervantes may have been under the influence and that she admitted having been distracted by her cell phone just before the crash.
