Wendy Marcus, 76, Killed in Mendocino County Crash on Highway 101 Near Willits
MENDOCINO COUNTY, CA (March 24, 2023) – Wendy Marcus was killed after a crash on Highway 101 near Willits in Mendocino County.
The sheriff’s office identified the 76-year-old Arcata woman as one of the victims in the fatal collision which occurred on Wednesday.
The incident happened when Wendy Marcus was driving a silver 2011 Hyundai north on Highway 101 near Willits. At the same time, a 2003 Jeep was going south.
Due to the rainy conditions, the Jeep veered out of control and into the northbound lanes. The California Highway Patrol said the car hen went into the path of the Hyundai near the Ridgewood scales.
3 Injured in Wreck
In the process, the Jeep struck the other vehicle. The Ukiah Daily Journal and The Press Democrat wrote that the wreck took place on March 22 at around 4:11 p.m.
Wendy Marcus died as a result of the crash. Her passenger, 74-year-old Lafayette resident Roger Marcus, survived the accident with serious injuries.
The driver of the Jeep, a 70-year-old Jane Barisione, also obtained major injuries. The second occupant of the same car, 39-year-old James Barber, ended up suffering from minor injuries.
Paramedics rushed Roger Marcus and the two Willits residents to the Howard Memorial for treatment. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Meanwhile, officers forced the northbound lanes of Highway 101 to shut down near Willits following the wreck. The cause of the Highway 101 crash is still under investigation.
