Melissa Ann Villanueva, 33, ID’d as Victim Killed in Crash
WEST COVINA, California (July 11, 2016) — A woman was killed early Sunday morning after the driver of the car she was riding in fell asleep and the car crashed on the Interstate 10 Freeway, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The fatal crash took place about 5:55 a.m. near the Barranca Street off ramp.
Jeanet Margarita Cuadra, 34, of West Covina was behind the wheel of the 2013 Kia Forte when she dozed off at speeds above 65 mph. The car crashed near the off ramp, causing her passenger, Melissa Ann Villanueva, 33, of Montebello, to be thrown into the windshield. Villanueva was reportedly not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and suffered major injuries. Paramedics pronounced her dead upon their arrival at the scene of the crash.
Cuadra suffered abdominal injuries in the crash, but she was wearing a seat belt and survived. She was transported by ambulance to L.A. County-USC Medical Center for treatment.
